Backing Young People with innovative opportunities that
advance their independence, social purpose and future security

Founded in 1962 by Sir Vincent and Lady Nancy Fairfax, we are a thriving family foundation with family members spanning three generations active in our work towards a better Australia.

Over six decades, we have distributed more than $230 million to Australian communities.

Our vision

In honouring our Founders’ beliefs and intentions, VFFF seeks opportunities to benefit and care for Australians and our country.

“This action was taken on the basis that my children are well provided for, and hopefully, in their turn will contribute further assets to this Family pot of gratitude for all the benefits we have received since landing in Australia in 1883.”

Sir Vincent Fairfax, 1972

Who is VFFF?

In 1962, Sir Vincent Fairfax established a charitable trust that is now the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation (VFFF).

The Founders’ children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have built on these foundations and VFFF has now gifted over $200 million to Australian communities. As VFFF enters its seventh decade, we celebrate the continued commitment of the Fairfax family to honouring the legacy of Sir Vincent and Lady Nancy Fairfax.

What do we fund?

We fund individuals and organisations working in NSW, QLD and nationally whose work aligns with our focus areas and funding outcomes.

We see our role as Backing Young People with innovative opportunities that advance their independence, social purpose and future security.

How do we work?

Our Backing the Future grants for individuals are an open grant round held twice a year in NSW and QLD.

Grants to organisations are made by invitation only. The VFFF team proactively seeks granting opportunities aligned to funding outcomes and initiates discussions with aligned organisations.

We value open communication and ask you to share your learnings to help inform and strengthen our future work.
